Darian, Elise and Xander have been through very rough times in the past, but nothing has prepared them for the menace that is causing all kinds of havoc in their territory this time around. Chicago is at the mercy, or lack thereof, of a ruthless gang of supernaturals who seem to take extreme pleasure in other people's pain. In this game of cat and mouse, there's no way to tell who's the predator and who's the prey.

Since I will NOT go into any plots or in depth character reviews, here is my take on this book.

While I have read all 5 of the 6 in the series and have started the 6th recently, this is a highly recommended installment in my opinion. I also liked that Natasha, while present, was not the end all, be all of the central character involvement here . The author is focusing on the story, and not one particular character, and this was a good direction to go in.

ACTION packed! It was a nail bitter for sure. Situation was critical actually, and the author had me frustrated at the parts I was supposed to be frustrated at, by building the tension just right. Good planning all around on this book. AND.. I like that the climactic "end" to the major conflict did not happen at the very end of the book :-) It happens before the last portion of the book, so they have time to revel in the aftermath and lead into the next in the series. Kind of like a cool down after a hard workout. Thanks D.N.! I needed that after that huge roller coaster ride of a story you told in this book.

New characters brought into the mix were both interesting and developed well, older peripheral characters mentioned in prior books, were more involved in this installment and developed into their own uniqueness, and the legendary OLD maker was brought back in as well (I love that character).

I think of all 5 of the 6 books, this was most exciting for me. (All books so far have gotten 5 stars from me so far, except book #3 the Royal Flush. It was good, but my least favorite.) My reviews are posted for all 5 of the book I've read so far.

Great job D. N. Partway through the beginning of book #6, and it is going great.

The Lion Den Knights of the Darkness Chronicles Book 5 eBook DN Simmons HI Gantt Reviews

The Lion's Den is the fifth book in Simmons Knight of the Darkness Chronicles series. I am so in love with this series and I am glad to say, this might be my favorite in the series so far. Simmons pulled no punches. This time around we follow Natasha and her expanding family. Natasha, Darian, and Xavier now have a baby and have a second one on the way. Things are going well in the city of Chicago until a shifter is found dead. He wasn't just killed, he was brutally skinned, raped, and dropped from 10000 feet in the air. The murders don't stopped there though. The victims are piling up faster than Warren and Matthew can solve it. And worse are that the victims are getting younger. These killers have no conscious. They are impossible to find. But Warren and Matthew and the gang are not going to give up even if the killers are seemingly invincible.

I loved this book a lot. It was super dark and gritty. I loved all the action Simmons packed in this book. It was an amazing read although a little tough to read in parts due to some of the viciousness. So please take that into consideration. This is not for the fainthearted. I loved that we got more of Warren and Matthew in this book. We had to be given more of them considering what they were up against. There is a new coven in town lead by a vampire named Marcus. He is strong, very strong. So much so that Darian is not sure he can beat him and his coven. This coven doesn't care who they kill or destroy. They have killed, skinned, and raped men, women, and children. It is getting to be too much for Warren and Matthew and the whole team of S.U.I.T. They are forced to join teams and bring in extra officers to help take down this new coven. These new officers bring a lot to the table and I can't wait to see what is to come of them. The coven feeds off of destruction and they have something very big planned that will ruin more lives than they already have.

I loved seeing the gang together again in this book. They team up an outside pride, a small group of lion shifters lead by a man named Adan who happens to have a lot of history with this evil coven. This evil coven is not use to seeing packs, prides, and vampires working together, but it makes no difference to them. Man, you are not going to believe how big this gets. I stayed up until about 5AM reading this book. I was hooked on every word. I had to know what was going to happen next. I had to know how the hell could they take down a group that is untraceable and very, very, very hard to kill. The anticipation was killing me. It was scary watching Darian doubt himself in this book. If he is at a loss, then they are definitely screwed. Darian is very arrogant and he is every right to be. But I loved that we saw other sides to him in this book especially near the end after a pep talk from a special someone (won't tell you).

As I said earlier, this is definitely my favorite out of the series so far. Simmons is incredible with a pen and paper (or keys and screen, whichever works for her). This book will scare you and probably give you some nightmares, but it is worth it. The Lion's Den will be one intense read you won't soon forget. I am dying for the next book which is sadly the last book in the series, but I know Simmons has something big up her sleeve if that cliffhanger was any indication. Oh, why must you torture us this way?! Read this book with caution if you are squeamish. Seriously, I am talking about more than loads of blood here people, but still highly recommended!
More action and suspense from the mind of D.N. Simmons. Another top notch thriller.
Book five of the Knights of Darkness Chronicles is more graphic and violent than the others, including Mutilation, rape, & murder of both adults and children and should not be read by the squeamish.
There is a new coven on the scene, headed by an ancient vampire named Marcus, that is killing and terrorizing the the people of Chicago.
Extremely old and much stronger than any others.
Marcus has followed a Lion pack to Chicago, that he is determined on destroying along with Darian and his shifter friends.
Many innocent people are killed and this Monster must be stopped!
Adan, who is head of the Lion pride, asks for help in destroying the monster Marcus and his coven and a new alliance is formed.
Some of the characters we love are killed during the fights. Coven, pride, and packs lose some of their loved ones.

On lighter side, Natasha now has a baby and is due to have another. You will laugh out loud at the antics with her, the baby and to bumbling vampire fathers Darian and Xavier.

The sex in this book is often violent, but there are also some very loving scenes. Between both males and females and males with males.

A lot going on in this D.N, Simmons book and a few new folks introduced. How anyone can give this book less than a five star review is beyond me. The scenes and characters are very vivid and the chemistry between each character is amazing.
This series is amazing, can't have enough
Lion's Den continued the story of Natasha and her vampire lovers, in the center of shifter packs and prides. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series. Unfortunately, at this point, it all has become a little predictable. Although, I was hoping for something new and creative from our author; it just wasn't there. I find Natasha to be a terribly unlikable character. She is immature, shallow, selfish, and desperately naive/ignorant. I continue to suspend a whole lot of disbelief with regard to her relationships and the other characters' reactions to her. I really wanted to enjoy it.
